Migration has been part of human history for centuries, but today’s migrations have reached an unprecedented global scale. According to the “State of Migration in the World 2024” report (IOM), 117 million people were displaced in 2024 alone due to conflicts, violence, disasters, and other crises.

While economic reasons still play a role, contemporary migrations are increasingly driven by climate change, prolonged conflicts (like in Afghanistan), and stricter migration policies. Beyond the visible challenges, migrants often face an invisible struggle: psychological trauma.

Join SIETAR Polska for a free webinar designed for anyone who do not avoid the topic of refugees. 🌱

  • It provides an accessible introduction to the fundamental concepts of psychological trauma—universal phenomena.
  • It offers simple tools to recognize signs of psychological trauma.
  • It offers practical strategies to support migrants while preserving one’s own well-being.

About our guest:

Paula Nestea, PhD, is a researcher specializing in the prevention of psychosocial risks and the promotion of resilience in intercultural contexts. She is actively involved in SIETAR Switzerland Board, working with the group dedicated to supporting refugees and those assisting in their integration.

As part of these initiatives, she is currently conducting a study on volunteers who support refugees in French-speaking Switzerland. This research aims to better understand the volunteers’ experiences, identify their needs, and formulate recommendations to improve the support mechanisms available to them. The ultimate goal is to facilitate the cultural integration of refugees and enhance social cohesion in our multicultural society.”
